Why HRLifeguard?

Lifeguards are observers and I love to observe corporate cultures and leaders. Lifeguards often teach others how to swim safely, giving them courage and new skills, and I hope that there are some learnings in these posts for you. They also jump in when they see people in distress and warn of dangerous conditions. If you know any lifeguards, they also like to share stories about what they’ve experienced. So that’s why HRLifeguard. Lots of parallels in our purpose.

As the HRLifeguard, I’ve observed a lot – a lot of good, a lot of bad, and a lot of “why the heck would you do that?”  Which surprising leads to genius part of the time, failure part of the time, confusion a lot of the time, and laughter almost all the time.

After 25 years in H.R., I’d like to think I’ve seen it all, but every year I’m surprised.  I guess that’s why I love what I do.  I’ve also worked with the good, the bad and the… well I’ll be nice.  But this won’t be all about H.R., in fact it probably won’t be much about H.R.  It’s about business, people, culture, the exceptional and the everyday.  It’s about life.

My goal is to let you know when the waters are murky and dangerous.  It’s also to be here to have some fun, grow and become stronger as we learn to deal with the waves that life throws at us – together.   So let me know what you think!  This is a sharing of experience – mine and yours (so jump in – the water’s fine!).

Pull up a chair, throw off those shoes, put your toes in the sand, relax, and join the conversation!

This will definitely be fun – won’t you come and enjoy it with me?  Don’t be afraid – I’m the HRLifeguard and I’ll be there too!
